Frequently Asked Questions

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

We do not have a “location” as we run out of foster homes. We do not have a facility where animals are housed. Therefore, in order to meet an animal you are interested in, you need to fill out an application, and then we can set up a meet in greet for you to meet them! If you’re looking for an address to send donations, our mailing address is:

Power of the Paw
PO Box 1836
Post Falls, ID 83877

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SHELTER, AND A RESCUE?

Shelters are facilities that house many animals at one time. The dogs are set up in runs, and there is a physical place you can go to see all of the animals available for adoption. Rescues are mostly run from foster homes, and have a smaller intake number, which means they know their animals quite well, and they know their quirks. The benefits from adopting a dog from a foster home, is you will know how they will be inside a home, with animals and children. We also have an extensive adoption process so that we know our animals are going to homes that are the right fit for them.

WHAT ARE YOUR ADOPTION FEES?

Our adoption fees vary depending on the age of the animal and if he/she has a sponsor. We do not allow sponsors on puppies. Our adoption fees are as follows:

DOGS
Puppies (8 weeks-6 months): $250
Adults (7months-7 years): $200
Seniors (8 years 9 years): $100

(10 and older): Adoption fee is waived
Adoption fees include spay/neuter, DAPP vaccination, bordetella vaccination, Rabies (if the dog is over 4 months), microchip, deworming, and vet check PLUS anything else the animals may have needed while in our program (IE: pain meds, dental, bloodwork, special food, etc.)

CATS
Kittens (8 weeks-6 months): $75
Adults (Over 7 months): $50
Seniors: $0
Adoption fees include spay/neuter, FVRCP vaccination, Feline Leukemia, Rabies (if the cat is over 4 months), microchip, deworming, and vet check PLUS anything else the animals may have needed while in our program. (IE: pain meds, dental, bloodwork, special food, etc.)

SMALL ANIMALS
Sometimes, we get in small animals such as guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, chinchillas, etc. The fees of these animals will vary.

DO YOU TAKE OWNER SURRENDERS?

Most of our efforts are directed at saving those in danger of being killed in kill shelters throughout our area, however, there are times where we will take in an owner surrender. We do not charge to take in an animal, but we do ask that you fill out an owner surrender application, found on our website. We will contact you if we have room to take in your animal. We are very limited on the amount of cats that we can take in, due to the very limited number of homes that are looking to adopt a cat.

HOW DO YOU BECOME A FOSTER HOME?

In order to become a foster home, we first need to receive a foster application from you. We will then call and interview you, and come out to your house to complete a homecheck so that we can meet your family and see what kind of personality will fit within your household. Please visit our foster page to learn more!

Owner Surrenders

Please note that by filling out this form, it does not guarantee acceptance into our program. We may just courtesy post your pet for you. Acceptance into our program depends on availability of foster homes, temperament, etc.

We CANNOT accept dogs that are aggressive with humans or other dogs in anyway, and all dogs will be fully evaluated prior to being accepted.

If accepted into our program, Power of the Paw does require a $25 relinquishing fee.
